#136 - again

i've gone back into the reading-heaps-of-stuff phase!
a photo of the books i managed to borrow on friday - some sort of miracle, seeing as my library card accidentally went through the wash :S the bar code still scanned, so i was just wow-ed over

we had assembly in the renovated hall for the first time this morning. it was much better than the old crappy one! and when they automatically rolled in the long slide-y screen on the stage, with a picture of the earth and the star wars motif, it was so win :D
in the afternoon, just after school finished, it was pouring really heavily so everyone took out their umbrellas. and people were really close together, trying to get onto the buses, and all the umbrellas mixed up together, were so pretty. it looked a little like this, but they were much better looking
and don't you just love that fresh pleasant smell after it rains? so nice to smell ^^

#135- Etiquette

et·i·quette/ˈetikit/

Noun: The customary code of polite behavior in society or among members of a particular profession or group
~ according to wikipedia
lately i have this feeling that people are lacking an understanding of what etiquette, is so i felt the need to remind you all...

RSVP
abbreviation
Répondez s'il vous plaît, or please reply (used at the end of invitations to request a response)
that's right, a response, meaning you actually have to acknowledge the fact that someone requests your company, and its ettiquette to respond to their request and of course a date is important, it's there for a reason so it shouldn't be ignored

and it seems as though we have forgotten our please and thank you's, its custom! although at times i do feel as though some people abuse this, like on trains, some old, stubborn ladies seem to have this stereotypical perception of the average teenager and impose this on me despite my innocent facade.

#134 - pessimism

"the glass is half filled. do you find it as half empty or half full?" that's what a friend asked me when i was acting particularly grumpy this morning.
i said no, because i have a terribly incurable bout of pessimism after a series of unfortunate events; and due to this, i've been spelling out amazing prophecies of doom for myself that are strangely comforting.
sighhhhh
down in the dumps. even the weather agrees with me, there's so many blistering cold cold cold winds and gloomy skies..
on a nicer note, thank you soooo much to all the people i have annoyed the brains out of for spending time to help me understand very very annoyingly easy things i find extremely difficult! and for having so much patience when i am quite easily among the most slowest and illogical group of people alive! :)

#133- Time

we're always told that in time, things will get better.so what if it doesn't? i'v been sick for just under 2 months now and well... i've experienced everything associated with the common flu. for the past few weeks i was technically sick but it wasnt really that obvious, that was until the weekend when the cycle began all over again. and as typical asian household, my family turned to chinese medicine. would it be weird to say that i'm used to chinese medicine o.O

let's hope that i can overcome my cold/flu/virus or whatever bug has been dwelling inside of me recently or else my growth will be stunted and i shall be known as little shirley forever T.T

#132 - life and glorious fails

from the wild and wily ways of a brunette bombshell:

what i mean to say is this: if things don't go as planned, so be it.
everyone says that, you say? okay. okay, how to tell you and make you understand?
how about this: failure is essential. fail as much and as gloriously as you can. fail in little, seemingly inconsequential ways when no one is looking. or fail on stage, under the lights, with thousands watching. it doesn't matter where or how so long as you allow yourself the chance. because, the thing is, others might not see it as such. and given enough time, it might reveal itself as something else. and when the failure fades or passes or wears another mask it gives way to a joy so profound, it lies beyond imagination.

______________________________________________________________

that morsel of advice made me feel much better about failure. unintentionally, i've definitely allowed myself the chance to fail and i do hope that it will become something joyful. after all, we learn from mistakes and previous fails, right? but i think i'm over failing.

~ on the road of life

and a question i would very much like the answer to: what is life, and what's it about? that's what a very nice person, perhaps one of the nicest and sweetest people i know in the school, asked me when i was in a hazy fog of misery on thursday. i thought of a very shameful answer, because life seemed to be full of nothing but sadness and tears at that moment. i said it to him..and he sighed. everywhere he went, everyone said the same thing. and then he asked everyone else sitting down as well: did we not see the lights shining on everyone's faces? (corny, i know) didn't we see the blue sky stretch every so endlessly? and wasn't sitting down with good people, discussing a matter that was not materialistic in any way and so relevant to us, without any awkward silences, one of the joys of life? ...... hopefully one day i'll discover the answer to the question.

#131- The end of the world or so it seems

does anyone else feel like just dying in a hole? its surprising how an exam mark can have such a big influence on our emotions and contrary to what others may think i actually failed advanced english... end of story! i wish english wasn't compulsory but unfortunately my views will evenutate in nothing so i'll just improve my english ability (easier said than done, i know)

on another note, did you know that tomorrow could be the end of the world. google it for more info i cbb to explain, and if i dont blog in the next few days then i would've died. ):
this reminds me of a conversation i had with a friend about dying vs. not dying i.e. would you rather die knowing that you'll be leaving behind all those that love you or would you rather not die but have someone you love die. i think life and death are very interesting topics, so what would your choice be?

oh and this life vs death topic kinda stems from 49 days, i kinda have mixed thoughts about the ending (thanks better for ruining the ending for me = = ) and in a sense it was satisfying however the writers included this other storyline which was rushed and sudden. one thing to note when watching 49 days: pay close attention to the dialogue the stuff they say is really meaningful.
