#446 - FDOS

This will not be a sad post today because my moods fluctuate quickly. Back to being chirpy.
On Sunday J and I finally experienced our first sushi train at Sushi Bay. Though we were utterly frugal and opted for the cheapest dishes - it was quite an enjoyable experience. Such a fun day :)
So today was first day of semester two and I have to say it was a really great day. For me, it was far better than the first day of semester one.
1) L tute - great topic, have my fave tutor again, didn't see someone I want to avoid for the rest of the course and I'm not friendless! Yay.
2) I tute - I made the right decision in choosing this as an elective. Lot of laughter? Tick. Interesting? Hell yeah. I finally 'clicked' with someone immediately ever since I've started uni. And I don't mean the romantic sense. We get along tremendously well which is so awesome! (:
3) Grabbed so many freebies since MacFest was on and stalls were open. Also joined the Doctor Who Society.
4) Weather was so pleasant today even though I was overdressed as usual and sweating my butt off half the time haha :)

So that's my feel-good first day back. Or maybe I'm just suffering from "FDOS" - a term coined by Stephy to stand for 'first day optimism syndrome'. Regardless, I think this is going to be a wonderful time.

reunited!

Song of the moment. I'm absolutely adoring this girl.

#445- FUUUUUU WIN 8

I don't know if you've tried a windows 8 desktop computer or not because put simply, they're crap! I recently replaced my desktop because my monitor died so I had choice because I was waiting out for something else other than windows 8 as the operating system- they're designed for tablets, and that's about as user friendly as they get.

First of all, it took  me 15 minutes (legit) to even turn on computer, that's how hard it was to find the button because the button wasn't even a button it's more like a design feature, yeah it's just a slit that doesn't even protrude outwards saying 'Hey press me if you want to start the computer'. Then there's my monitor that I'm yet to figure out how to work because I'm so archaic and I live in a world where I hate change or unnecessary change- I think the monitor is turned on via touch, but honestly I don't know because I just press it firmly until this blue light turns on and that's all I know. Next, the keyboard that I'm typing on is so tiny, like there are no spaces what so ever, everything is crammed in and HAS SHRUNK. I have tiny hands so how the hell is a full grown adult suppose to type of the new keyboards- what kind of idiot invented win 8 let alone let the computer companies redesign their keyboards. Hello, there's a reason why keyboards are universally sized, so people can switch without noticing a difference. Then there's the OS itself, how the hell am I suppose to operate it, the bloody home screen is just packed full of useless squares, half of which I have never heard of so I spent the first few minutes deleting and uninstalling all this crap that was just an eyesore. After that I tried to reach the normal menu that we're all used to and even then to open something I use this search thing on the side- all in all WHYYYYY WINDOWS

Today when I was printing out everything for uni I found that Adobe doesn't recognise my Duplex laser printer so I can't print double sided instead it has to be done manually (it's not that bad but it's still a hassle nonetheless).

I found it hilarious seeing the traffic sources for this blog, glad to know that our blog is I guess synonymous with 'FUUUUU' yup we provide you with our sometimes nonsensical but otherwise enjoyable rants (:

so yeah FUUUUU why the hell do I have win 8 and how long will it take me to be able to navigate my way through it?

#444 - Smile please

Wednesday and Thursday: work, then sleep over at R's new house! Though the sleepover was fun and I saw people I hadn't see in a while, I still have to say that home is truly the best place to be. I bought my textbooks too.
Friday: My first truly unpleasant 'bad' day at work. I just gave up being smiley towards the end for a variety of reasons...urgh. Do you think a person who brings you bad luck exists? I do.

#443- Oh my...

Time sure flies doesn't it, can't believe that uni starts next week. I feel so unprepared and well lazy, unmotivated, etc, etc. I have a strange but not horrid timetable, legit 3 days a week but with peculiar hours, for example on Wednesday I have a 3pm start and a 7:30pm finish (yeah I know what you're thinking). Oh and attention all UNSW commuters, I'll be there on the first Friday so yeah I hope to see lots more people this time around.

I wanted to end on a happy note, congrats to Nole for winning the ESPY tennis player of the year (insert applauding noises). It's so frustrating to vote for the ESPY awards online because 3/4 of the awards are for gridiron, baseball or basketball based purely in the US so obviously I just pick some random guy or girl (cannot forget that there are female athletes). Also, today marks the 7th year anniversary of Nole's first ATP title (insert even louder applauding noises), here's is a video of the final game of that title and omgsh he has barely changed including those around. Can anyone spot two familiar faces that are still by Nole's side in 2013?

#442 - Suddenly

Saturday: happy birthday to my one and only dearest father! The day I fell in love with Pride & Prejudice.Uni results tied the day together in a nice way :D
Monday: worked then went to watch DM2 with some of my girls yay :)
Wednesday, Friday: more work - it's getting better and I find it to be an enjoyable albeit tiring learning curve. Also did something that I think I needed to do and it made me feel more like a grown up after doing so.

Today was Aroma Festival and although I've been saying I would finally go this year, it turns out my sis couldn't go because she has an exam tomorrow and I just feel like recuperating at home on days where I'm free..so nope didn't go. Hopefully next year! I feel like I need to 'recharge' my batteries because going out requires money, time and energy... all which I don't feel like spending. I've become a rather frivolous spender this year and I'm thinking of instigating a spending ban or doing monthly budgets. I have to remember that money doesn't just fall from trees.
Besides that...

#441- Long awaited

I'm back on the road- not sure if you should be happy that I have another crack at it or scared for my safety and for those around me...

Last Friday (yeah that was a while ago), I took Sweet to Surry Hills to feast over food and lots of it till we almost wobbled our way back to Central Station. Blog post is finally up so yeah go visit and support my other blog http://thegourmetcouture.blogspot.com.au. You know, apparently according to Urbanspoon my blog is #224 (was previously 238 but apparently I got 2000 views in just one day which is definitely not correct) for Sydney food blogs according to page views which is strange because the number cited on the website is very very different from that on blogger.....

Mum had her fangirl moment when she saw Dynamo on Sunrise, kinda felt like going to city today to see him in person but then I was too lazy and cheap to trek it to the city plus I made panna cotta today. It's still setting but I made two flavours honey and lemon, I hope I got the gelatine right because the lemon is setting properly but not the honey. If anyone has used gelatine leaves tell if it's worth investing in it because it's so much more expensive than powder gelatine.

Anyway, next topic, Aroma Festival is on this Sunday anyone interested let me know and there's going to be a coffee mosaic so hopefully I'll stick around till then and that the weather clears.

#440 - Peek-a-boo

For the past few days I've been pretty much doing nothing but work. Slowly getting turned off the food but I'm improving! Love it when I get really chirpy customers =) Oh yep, I also hit the sack a lot earlier nowadays since I'm too drained to be awake longer.
Today Bitter took me to eat at the very crowded Chur Burgers (delicious; thanks for the treat :D) and Gelato Messina in Surry Hills. It was basically an outing so we could eat out and chill - you missed out V! I'm a city noob so I thought Central Station yielded pretty much nothing of interest except Chinatown and Haymarket but it turns out I've never ventured out to the other side... Surry Hills. I was hyperventilating when I saw the Billy Kwong restaurant, haha.We also went inside the library and the architecture was so lovely, even better than the state library since it looked like one of the those picturesque dream libraries on tumblr with beautiful spiral stairs, paper birds dangling from the roof, fancy glass, classy and modern decoration. Thanks for a fun day of culinary delights!

#439- Wake up call

Today I had an expensive lesson.... drove my car today (I'm on my L's) and guess what I busted a tyre already (don't ask how). I'm stubborn by nature; it's a hereditary trait but I guess the shock of today was something that I needed to so that I don't become a legitimate road hazard and burden to society. For my past failures, I apologise and I shall repent for the next week because that's my self-inflicted punishment. If I were to take anything from today it would be that I now know how to change a tyre and of course a well needed reality check. Finally, does anyone know where I can buy a jack?

#438 - Again

Today I finally saw my wifey after 3 months! (: Online chat just doesn't compare to in-person conversation for me. And we leisurely strolled the city albeit with some huffing and puffing, quenched our thirst by sampling more tea under the guise of "exploring", grabbed more samples, received free hugs from a very bubbly girl, had lunch in the W building with my pa and retreated to Tom Toms (many thanks to Bitter for the introduction to this cozy pretty place!) for warm drinks. Aroma Festival 2013 is coming up as well - can't wait!

In the midst of talking but she still looks nice :D

My collection of 'The Big Issue' so far. In major locations of Australia, you'll find vendors selling this on the streets. When most people walk past beggars on the street, they don't give money because who knows - maybe that person isn't truly in a position of hardship / is a druggie, scammer etc. However, TBI is an independent not-for-profit organisation which lets vendors experiencing financial hardship or difficult circumstances help themselves. The money you pay for the bimonthly magazine goes to the vendors, who keep the profits. Sometimes we are overwhelmed with people and organisations urging us to provide foreign aid and that's all good and fine... but charity begins at home. Do buy TBI if you want to help out these people (every little bit counts!) and you've got spare change. It's a thoroughly enjoyable read.

#437- Long Overdue

I'm going to come off as a massive bitch here but I support and love my man Nole unconditionally so overlook this is you don't want me to badmouth a public figure but hey under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights I'm entitled to freedom of speech as a basic human right so here I am exercising that right.

UPDATE EVERYONE I'M TAKING THIS OPPORTUNITY TO VENT MY FRUSTRATION AND YEAH IT'S 2:30 IN MORNING. F**KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK I HATE MURRAY, WORDS CANNOT EXPLAIN HOW MUCH OF AN EYESORE IT IS TO SEE HIM PLAY, ARROGANT BASTARD THAT RUINS THE FUN OUT OF WATCHING TENNIS. YOU KNOW I WAS TALKING TO MY UNI FRIENDS ABOUT THIS, BUT WE DON'T CARE IF MURRAY WINS EVERYTHING THERE IS HE JUST CANNOT WIN WIMBLEDON- END OF STORY! SO YEAH NOW THAT'S OVER F**K HIM AND BECAUSE I FEEL EXTRA BITCHY ATM MY GOD HIS MOTHER'S TAN HAS GOTTEN WORSE I DID NOT KNOW THAT WAS POSSIBLE BUT IT HAS. I MEAN IF YOU'RE GOING TO GET A FAKE TAN VIA SPRAY OR WHATEVER MECHANISM, MAKE SURE IT IS DONE PROPERLY, I MEAN YOUR SON IS RICH SO IT'S NOT LIKE YOU CAN'T AFFORD IT. IT SHOWS UP BETTER ON CAMERA BECAUSE THERE'S NO WHERE TO HIDE BUT IF YOU LOOK CLOSELY AT HER FOREHEAD, HER SKIN TONE IS VERY VERY VERY LIGHT AND I MUST SAY THAT I HAVE NEVER BEEN A FAN OF PURPOSELY DYING YOUR HAIR GREY, IT'S GROSS SO UNLESS SHE WANTS TO AGE GRACEFULLY I'M GOING TO CRITICISE HER ON THAT. ALSO, IF I WERE TO GO EVEN FURTHER WITH MY CRITIQUE, HER TAN RESEMBLES THAT OF FEMALE BODY BUILDERS (WHO ELSE CRINGES WHEN THEY SEE THEM). ON MORE POSITIVE NOTE, HIS GIRLFRIEND'S FACE HAS GOTTEN SKINNIER BUT SHE WORE THE WRONG DRESS.

ANOTHER THING MY GOD THAT BLOODY WIMBLEDON, DO YOU GUYS HAVE ANY TACT NOR RESPECT I MEAN I KNOW THAT YOUR COUNTRYMEN IS PLAYING BUT WHOEVER SHOUTED OUT DURING THE VERY LAST POINT WAS JUST UNCALLED FOR, DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA OF HOW CRITICAL IT IS AS A PLAYER TO BE ABLE TO CONCENTRATE. I UNDERSTAND THAT YOU'RE TENSE AND AGITATED BECAUSE MURRAY WAS ON THE CUSP OF VICTORY BREAKING THAT WHOLE 77 YEAR DROUGHT AND ALL (LET'S BE HONEST WHO GIVES A CRAP) BUT PLEASE HAVE THE DECENCY TO BE SILENT UNTIL THE VERY LAST BALL HAS BEEN HIT. I GAVE MURRAY THAT COURTESY DURING THE AUSOPEN THIS YEAR SO I EXPECT YOU GUYS AS RESPECTABLE HUMAN BEINGS AT THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS SPORTING EVENT TO DO THE SAME.

FINALLY, I'M GOING TO MAKE IT MY PERSONAL MISSION IN LIFE TO ATTEND EVERY GRAND SLAM FINAL AND TO BE AS VOCAL AS POSSIBLE EVEN IF I HAVE TO SNEAK IN A MICROPHONE. LET'S HOPE THAT DJOKOVIC WILL STILL BE PLAYING AND IN THE FINALS WHEN I BRING THAT PLAN INTO FRUITIION

See my response to this, second person to comment. What matters is that I am not alone

There has barely been tasks crossed off my to do list, 2 weeks down and I have barely accomplished anything. I'm looking forward to this week because I won't have to go out except for work and driving, gosh I sound like such a hermit but then again that's because I am one =D

Open question here, who the heck can afford to drink out at bars, on Friday I attended a society event at Zeta Bar at the Hilton Hotel where the drinks and nibbles were on the society's tab fortunately because most of the drinks were around $20. This one's specifically for 365 friend, you know the Long Island ice tea came in a paper bag. Also sorry guys there will be no photos of this as my camera decided to rebel against me so most of the photos came out blurry but I will say that QVB is really pretty at night or at least from our view.

Finally, Wimbledon Finals is tonight and I've been praying so much for his victory, getting ready to deck myself out in my 'I <3 Nole' wear and Serbian flags whilst I fix myself to the TV and may or may not Skype with tennis friends to contain what ever emotion arises during the match.

#436 - Go the distance (2?)

So what's happened recently:

- V came over and we had so much fun playing Wii, eating, chilling with Steph and randomly jamming. I was the worst Robin ever because I couldn't jump for my life (:
- Lazy enjoyable days. Finally sunshine!
- Work. There's a lot I have to say but I think it's better not to say anything but... "every mile will be worth my while." That is all.
-I was abruptly reminded of some memories which I had stowed away deep down in my brain because I don't want to remember the kind of person I was before. Then some weird twist of fate (coincidence?) occurred...
- A very happy birthday to my dearest J ;)
- Bitter's party!!! Had fun even though I had to leave early. Thanks for organising!
- 18" Costco pizza for a mere thirteen dollars and rediscovering the perks of being a bibliophile. I swear, whenever I see beautiful covers of books, I get so tempted to buy them because the covers seemingly determines and enhances how good I believe the book is. I saw these below but didn't buy them (yet)

image. MAJOR SWOON. NEED.

- And before I finish, I'm including my view on the Snowden fiasco. I used to be so naive and think Obama was quite a great person but really, what change has occurred since he became president?  He's a disgrace to the legal profession because he conducts in unethical practices and fails to deliver justice on a gross scale to the people. His administration has blatantly lied about about them not being in a rush to catch a mere 29 year old whistleblower but yet the recent Ecuador fiasco proves otherwise; they are willing to create and risk diplomatic uproars in their desperate attempts to catch Snowden because he exposed the shitty workings of the government and the government is afraid that the people will rebel against them. It's true that Snowden violated state secrets but his actions were utilitarian and the people discovered the shitty workings of the government. That isn't even true democracy. Yet no country is willing to take a stand against the US and grant Snowden asylum even though Russia is clearly enjoying the US' demise and Beijing has refused to comply. I simply don't understand, what the US has that every country is so scared of defying them and give in to their sneaky threats? It looks like Big Brother has come to life.

#435- The Rat Race

Title for today is a bit ironic but I think it embodies many connotations that I are boggling inside my head so don't mind me as I attempt to spew them onto this post. So I finished my exams last, last Friday and today was the first time that I spent the whole day at home, that's right 24 hours (that is a feat thus far). Most of the time I'm running around like a headless chicken or if I'm not running I feel like I am, even though I'm on break the mountain of errands, tasks and work that I have to get through is crazy. Fortunately from Sunday onwards, I will be taking a week break so DND whilst I try to get into shape.

Follow up from Sweet's post on the Australian political climate, I have to say that I am a KRudd supporter, I always was and I think I will continue to be unless this he does something that angers me greatly. Whilst, I am feminist and I applaud Julia Gillard's efforts in empowering women particularly in the conservative, male-orientated political domain, I was never able to reason nor forgive her for overtaking Kevin Rudd to become the PM. To me that was something really conniving and selfish so for that I say that Karma is a Bitch (:

Also to Happy Apple, I have 2 users left on my Microsoft Office for Mac so I can sell you a user if you're interested.

Finally, here's a photo of my first and last experience of Sydney's monorail, I shall rant about it in my next post because it's getting late but I still cannot fathom how I was able to stand in line for 2 hours to go ride it but that may have been because I was accompanied by my lovely friends.

Bondi Group Photo, I think we truly capture the essence of Asian eyes

 Goodbye~
This was taken at Batter's 18th, sorry Better but I couldn't resist uploading this photo
