#434 - Tribute to Gillard & more

Alright, I haven't been following politics closely because it's pretty mundane stuff until these last two weeks because SMH kept throwing endless political opinion pieces every day and conservative right-wing supporters were busy having a comment war with left-wing proponents all the time. Australian politics has been fraught with turmoil ever since Gillard deposed Rudd three years and two days ago but last night was the final denouement - goodbye Gillard, hello Rudd again. In other words: politics is a screwed up black hole because it makes you 'bitter or better' (according to Rudd) and I cannot believe how two-faced politicians are. Here's a few: Bill Shorten the ambitious ultimate traitor, Penny Wong who defected to Rudd at the last minute and Rudd himself for being a hypocrite and saying he would never contest under Gillard's prime ministership thrice but ultimately going back on his words for the sake of saving ALP from catastrophic defeat. It's difficult to believe the things people will do for power.
I'm a bit sad to see Gillard quit - she wasn't actually that bad of a PM as a vast majority of the public made her out to be. The media's constant denigration of her every action only helped to fuel her declining popularity with the people. She wasn't the perfect politician; but then, no one ever is. Her few failures were the carbon tax which was, and still is hugely unpopular with the people and probably the way she deposed Rudd, which many people still view as unacceptable and justifies her resignation. She wasn't much of a sweet talker and the best communicator either unlike Rudd. She didn't support marriage equality and was an atheist. Many found fault with her because she didn't represent the typical nuclear family since she was in a de facto relationship and childless. That radio host who questioned her about her partner's sexuality was a damn rude dickhead who deserved to be sacked since his taunts were simply uncalled for and were completely disrespectful. I'm fairly certain that radio host would have never questioned Rudd or any other male PMs about their partners' sexuality but Gillard is a woman so of course it was perfectly acceptable to make such remarks. Thus, it's hard to deny that gender politics did play some role in Gillard's falling popularity and resulted in Gillard not getting the respect or credit she deserved as the PM. Regardless, she successfully passed Gonski reforms, fared well despite a hung parliament and helped cushion Australia against the economic crisis. Most importantly, she managed to attain the highest office in the land and has made it clear that a woman can break through the glass ceiling. Ironically, Rudd donned a blue tie yesterday.

- - - - - - - - - - -
So over politics now - pretty much everyone is a two-faced snitch. I feel so sorry for Gillard! :( I know that ALP was headed for mass defeat in NSW and Victoria with Gillard leading the party and it just happens that Rudd is extremely popular with the people but detested amongst his colleagues, the opposite of Gillard. The Coalition is quite a vicious bunch (anyone seen the Rudd demonisation videos?) and I can definitely see why young people aren't voting for them. Abbott is a major slimeball with dubious policies that only cater to the well-off.
In other news: I've missed the days where I get to chill! Attended A's surprise party on Sunday - have to say a big thank you to V for thinking of such a lovely extremely well-received present! :D I say this a lot but it's so hard to find birthday gifts for people I am very good friends with. I know them extremely well... I just don't know what to get them. Many have sufficient funds to buy what they want so I dunno, I feel a bit lost when thinking of presents to give.  It's a weird phenomenon. Also got around to rewatching Sherlock since I need to take a longggg break from dramas and it's amazeballs. Seriously. I finally get the 'I AM SHERLOCKED' thing and I gotta say, I am Sherlocked too! 'Hounds of Baskerville' was definitely the scariest episode; it was reminiscent of DW's 'Blink' or 'Weeping Angels' (Moffat). When I finished, I was legit wondering what I should do with my life. LOL. Need to wait until November until season 3 comes out....that's a damn long time. Though S and I just bought Volume 1 of Sherlock Holmes today to read! So exciting :) Also got hooked on Criminal Minds since I'm a sucker for crime shows. Work starts next week and I feel apprehensive. Boy, did we grow up fast...

#433- Still Alive

Hiatus technically ended last Friday but I started watching May Queen + there were heaps of outings so this is why I'm only greeting you guys now. How have you all been? For some reason my bad stomach didn't crop up during exams, usually it's correlated to the my stress level which is strange- does that mean I don't stress for uni exams?

Anyhow, lots of things to say and post especially all the places that I want to share with you all. Plus Butter and I are going to collaborate!!! and that leads onto today's event which was an Awesome Foursome Reunion at our signature cafe- Cafe de la France unfortunately the Parramatta chain closed so we had to relocate to the city.

That's it for today I'm off to watch more of May Queen (:

#432 - Ups and downs

A very belated shout out: happy 18th to Bitter and A!  ♥♥♥ I'm looking forward to anticipated parties (:

I've never been a person who has a relatively bad start to the day, but last Friday was certainly one of them. Firstly, I forgot to do a very important thing and only remembered after dashing out of the house and then, a few minutes later in my desperate bid to buy a ticket and catch the train that was already at the station, I tripped on the slippery ground and ended up like this:

FACE DOWN

How mortifying and embarrassing -__- I haven't tripped since year 6, but serves me right for being so tardy! I still made the train though, yay!!! But never again will I be so damn late in getting out of the house. NEVER.Regardless, it was a lovely day in the end  - browsing T2 only to drink samples, going into shops to hoard samples that I'll probably never use because I am the stereotypical Asian who loves samples, exploring, losing ourselves in the bookshop, eating sushi and feeling lethargic and sleepy on the train. I love the atmosphere of the city; it's so wonderful, vibrant and bustling (:

Anyway, I've been holed up at home this week trying to study for my last exam. I'm almost done with revising and good on me for doing daily revision throughout the semester because I would have been so screwed otherwise. *pats self on back appreciatively*  Hurry up Saturday! I want to be free!

+ I love buying stuff for myself online occasionally. When it gets delivered to me, I feel excited even though I know it's a gift from me to me. Extra score for finding my first good quality wool jumpers that will hopefully last me years (:

#430 - CumberCollective

Guys...
I'm officially part of the CumberCollective / Cumberpeople / Benaddicted cult.
My personal fave Ben quote (on his Cumberbitches fans):
"I won't allow you to be my bitches. I think it sets feminism back so many notches. You will be ... Cumberpeople."
Simply perfect?! My next favourite actor after DT - charismatic, feminist or at least having a belief of equality :)))), talented and funny.
Time to get Sherlocked again.
And yes, I'm aware I'm kinda using the the blog as if I'm on tumblr (:

PS. ST 2013 > ST 2009

PPS. Yesterday was my dear mum's 23rd anniversary of touching down in Australia. Wow. And then to think about how much we've aged and grown. She's not your typical mum - she's so selfless and I feel like a bad daughter most of the time because I'm lazy, don't do enough chores and we often argue over silly things. Usually I'm in the wrong and being unreasonable. She never buys materialistic things for herself - heck, persuading her to use a Nivea hand cream that I bought was an incredibly difficult task. But I've digressed. Just thinking about her frugal, selfless, loving, hardworking, good-tempered nature makes me love her all the more even though I say it so carelessly every day. So that's why I was so overjoyed when she came home yesterday and bought herself a cute new red bag after using the same boring black one for over ten years. Best mum I could ever ask for.

#429- RG

I F**KIN HATE COMMENTARY
~ENOUGH SAID

Also, just realised that for my entire essay that I submitted a week ago, I wrote adverse instead of averse TT

#428 - On wanderlust and other pressing things.

Reading travel blogs has made me realise that I am consumed by wanderlust and a little tired from the lack of excitement in my life. Here's my travel bucket list in particular order:
- Guilin
- Jiuzhaigou
- Beijing
- Terracotta warriors

(Putting it out there, I'm feeling particularly nationalistic at the moment. China is a beautiful country with a rich cultural history. For the first time, I am proud to be Chinese regardless of the government's often dubious policies. Western countries often criticise other countries' political regimes but yet they themselves are hypocritical when they deny or refute arguments about their own governments' dastardly issues. *cough cough USA and the so-called "War on Terror" - violation of human rights much?* Moreover, there have been far more countless bombings in Middle Eastern countries carried out by Western armies than there have bombings in the UK and US carried out by extremist jihads but yet it is events like these in Western countries that receive widespread media coverage and the sympathy of many.)

 - Pompeii
- South America (Mayan Ruins - Chichen Itza, Uxmal and Edzna)
- New York, Los Angeles, California
- London
- Iceland (Northern Lights)
- Venice
- Switzerland
- Berlin
- Montenegro
- South Korea
- Great Barrier Reef

I'm so glad that this day is coming to an end - multiple assessments over and done with, end of the semester and a great Friday night spent at the movies with Robs and catching up yet again over colossal boxes of $5 sushi. I can't put my finger to it, but hanging out a Friday night always makes me happy and at peace with the world. I may be an easy film critic seeing as I enjoy most films that I see, but Star Trek: Into Darkness - holy shit, this was AMAZING. Amazing is actually an understatement - I just can't think of any more fantastical words to describe the film. I though IM3 was great, but Star Trek exceeds my expectations and is currently topping my list of must-watch films this year. I am totally digging science fiction and action blockbusters  and by golly, the special effects these days are absolutely freaking sublime in 2D. I feel like the universe is getting more awesome by the second. I just want to ponder the mysteries of the universe. NB: Benedict Cumberbatch (BBC Sherlock) is officially crowned the creepiest looking villain ever.

Also pleased to report that I am employed (hurray for my first proper job!) but will undergo training in a fortnight or so. I also caught up with an old primary school friend on the train on Monday morning and it was so nice to see her after 8.5 years! A random topic that Rob and I discussed tonight was social drinking amongst young adults. For others it's used to achieve a high and make you feel great / sad etc and is undeniably a great social tool but personally, I'm not the hugest fan of it when people don't drink in moderation and know their limits. I'm a prude. I find that losing control of your actions and thoughts is a frightening thing - some people change into completely different people and their actions may prove to be fatal or detrimental. I've heard first-hand stories about shy people my age losing all inhibitions once drunk and trying to get into the cabins of the opposite sex during camp. If sober people hadn't stopped them, a crime may have been committed. That's how scary people can become when they are drunk even though you have the happy drunks, the smiling drunks, the confident drunks and the spilling secrets drunk. Moreover, is getting so drunk really such a good thing when you wake up with a pounding aching hangover, spend a large proportion of the night with your head bent over the toilet seat, vomiting everything your body cannot handle and struggle to remember what happened last night? A physical high on life can be achieved through other means (skydiving, bungee jumping, whatever floats your boat and makes you feel elated) and a party can be fun without alcohol or people drinking in moderation (1-2 drinks). Just putting it out there: be safe.

It's been around five and half years. It sounds so long but boy, time sure flies quickly. I remember every memorable moment, be it sad, happy, depressing and any other emotion on the spectrum...
We all change, but distance only grows exponentially over time if we change in different directions and cannot stop. Deep down, I could sense the direction we were heading and for that reason, I fully accept the present as it is today. No particular regrets. People come, people go, but only a few will stay and pose a significant existence to you.
Where will we be in 5 years? Who will we hold dear?
The future awaits.

PS. A very late congratulations to my dear sister for making it into the enrichment course for the National Art School! Love ya heaps. 加油!

#427- CNBLUE BLUE MOON CONCERT 1/06/13

haha dodgey but yes that should aptly articulate the amount to excitation that I am still struggling to contain and nts next time to try to make a use a word to make a picture consult your bro because he is truly the master.
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG STILL CANNOT BELIEVER THAT CN BLUE GRACED SYDNEY. LET ME TELL YOU THAT IT WAS SUCH A SURREAL MOMENT, FANGIRLED TO BUTTER ABOUT THIS BUT YONGHWA YOU ARE FOREVER MY ULTIMATE BIAS, YOU ARE SO AMAZING AND TALENTED AND SEEING YOU IN PERSON WAS SUCH AN UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE. GUYS IF YOU THOUGHT HE WAS HANDSOME ALREADY THEN HE'S EVEN BETTER IN REAL LIFE, IKR, HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?

ahh i could go on about it forever so if you're like Average and are sick of me fangirling then just skip this post because that's exactly what I shall do for the remainder.

Recount!
Met Reflectica at Milsons Point, had an early lunch and we missed out on waffles before we started to find our way to Big Top Sydney and if you're wondering where that is, well it's situated inside Luna Park (yeah go figure...). One of the most disappointing aspects of the night (not on the part of CNBLUE) was the organisation of the Big Top staff as well as JK Entertainment- the organiser, from the moment we arrived till the end of the concert it was continuously raining, and we had to wait in the rain for entry. It is absurd to even fathom how it is possible to allow 3000 fans to enter a concert within the time frame of 30minutes when it is also raining. I know that V and I frequently say that common sense is not common but do they have a brain? Yeah I'm still struggling to accept their treatment of us, and I know that this didn't apply to me much but CNBLUE were forced to start on time so that was like 7:40 and that meant that those were behind us (200+ people) missed out on the beginning of the show. To make matters worse, those in GA reserved seating had their seats poached by other randoms and as a VIP Reflectica and I had to show a staff ticket before we were in a designated area because when we entered the door as with everyone else we were met by crowds of GA people. One more thing for me to rant about and I'll stop, PHOTOS omg stingy stingy people, I understand that we can't take a video but how is a photo unacceptable, sheesh as fans we just want to cherish this moment in our lives by documenting it. I'm pretty sure that if the staff were in our shoes then would do so as well.

Okay on the positives and everything that I will take away from this night. First of all, being like 10m away from Yonghwa, Minhyuk, Jonghyun and Jungshin was unavailable, if you're a loyal reader of this blog then you will know how much I fangirl over them especially Yonghwa. 3 years of waiting and remember that post where I spammed you info about how they were coming down under, gosh it finally happened where I got to see them in person as opposed to watching them on my computer. They are also so good live, hearing Yonghwa sing <3333333333333 and guess what he sang love light so for all the WGM and Gogumas out there I was pleasantly surprised when I saw someone holding up a YongSeo banner because I totally ship them! OTP right here, I'm going to stop here but if you see me this week then ask me how was my weekend because that'll be the cue for me to start fangirling about this incredible night.

I don't know why I feel that 2013 is treating me really well, started off with a BANG with the AusOpen and seeing Nole's title defence along with Maria Sharapova in action was something that was that already made me year but now to top that all off was my first ever concert experience and I'm glad that I didn't participate in the Optus Rockcorps because otherwise the title would've gone to that instead and I'd much rather spend my first concert paying for an artist/s that I genuinely love and that happened. So 2013 come at me, nothing can detract away from all the happiness that I've had so far.

PHOTOS
One of the best nights ever with one of my favourite besties <3
This was taken off fb, but basically the minnie mouse headband was a gift from a fan and then Yonghwa wore it was gave us ageyo and said "I am Disney" awww love him so much and he's such a troll but the tolerable type which makes you love them even more
LIVING IT UP cos ... YOLO
One of the few pictures that I managed to sneak in where you can see them clearly
Context: Jungshin threw this towel into the VIP crowd and the guy behind me caught it TT I would've edited the guys face but I think that would distort my memories of it

After concert- it ended on time but it seemed to go by so fast
Midnight snack at Tom N Toms, hehehe I've introduced Reflectica to the world of korean green tea lattes

Finally, CNBLUE are leaving tomorrow, and as a Boice and a die-hard (but not crazy scary fan), I hope that the boys had a pleasant time in Sydney going home with warm memories so that they will return in the near future because I shall be waiting but not patiently so don't make me wait too long.

Okay so I haven't posted in a while, but that can be said for everyone. Till next time! oh and my other blog turned 1 today!
